“Around the Campfire” Profile: Diane Hatz

Who’s around our campfire? Each week we will profile a different TEDActive 2013 attendee and give you a peek into what they have to share around the fire in Palm Springs. This week, meet Diane!

Where are you from?
I’m Diane Hatz, Co-Founder & Director of The Glynwood Institute for Sustainable Food and Farming, based out of New York City.

Where is your favorite place on earth?
My favorite place on earth right now is half way up Bell Rock in Sedona, Arizona.

What interests you?
People interest me – I love listening to what other people are doing and have done.  I also am interested in philosophy, especially Buddhism.

What problem are you trying to solve?
I’m trying to shift the US food system to one that is sustainable, healthy and accessible to all.  I raise awareness and put on special events (like TEDxManhattan) on issues related to sustainable food and farming.

What’s your favorite thing about TEDActive?
The people – and the bean bags!

What’s your favorite TED Talk?
That’s too hard to answer – but Dan Barber’s “How I fell in love with a fish” is up there.

What piece of advice would you give to someone coming to TEDActive for the first time?
Don’t force it – just let it happen.

What’s one thing you can’t live without?
My friends.
